I met Andy while working at Industry Dive. Although we were not on the same team and did not interact daily, he was always someone you could turn to. Andy was incredibly busy, but it was simply his nature to be available, whether you needed help, perspective, or a quick chat in the breakroom. He carried a steady, calming presence that put people at ease without effort.
Through work happy hours and other gatherings, I was fortunate to get to know him better. We were opposites in many ways, but connecting with Andy was effortless and genuinely enjoyable. In our conversations, he spoke with so much warmth and pride about his family, while I likely rambled on about who knows what. And yet, he always listened. He was always fully present.
A few years into the job, Andy stopped by my desk and handed me a set of self-development workbooks and guided journals. He said, “I saw this, and it made me think of you. Hopefully, you can do some good with it.” I was deeply touched by the intention behind that moment. It is something I will never forget, and I still use those guidebooks to this day. That was Andy. Quietly generous. Incredibly kind.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. Being around Andy made me want to be a better person. He will be deeply missed.
